Will you cross the skies for me?

I recently got to watch the Tamil movie Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa on my comp (without sub-titles! πŸ˜€ ). Directed by Gautam Menon, this movie is about a Hindu guy and a Christian girl falling in love with each other, and the confusion and difficulties they face in their lives from there on.

Will You Cross The Skies For Me? πŸ™‚

The story is very slow, with very few characters apart from Simbu and Trisha, but the cinematography and locales, and awesome music by A R Rahman, more than make up for it. Simbu looks very decent for a change, and Trisha looks prettier than ever! πŸ™‚ …

There are a few songs from the movie which are my personal favourites :

Omana Penne : Sung by Benny Dayal and Kalyani Menon, this song reflects the feelings of a new love emerging in one’s heart. It is fresh and lively, thanks to Benny Dayal (of ‘Pappu can’t Dance Saala’ fame)

Kannukkul Kannai : Sung by Naresh Iyer, this song revolves around the wait that a guy goes through when he has proposed to his lady-love. Very hip-hop type, and great dancing by Simbu!

Mannipaaya : Sung by the legendary A. R. Rahman and Shreya Ghoshal, this is one of the most melodious songs of recent times. Soft and soothing, Shreya Ghoshal continues to charm with her magical voice πŸ™‚

Anbil Avan : A very rocking number sung by Devan Ekhambaram and Chinmayi. The tune makes you feel like you are inside a church, attending a marriage πŸ™‚

There are other songs as well, like Aaromale, Hosanna and the title track itself, which enhance the otherwise dull storyline. My suggestion is that you should watch this movie atleast once, for the brilliant music, fantastic cinematography, and for the ever-so-gorgeous Trisha! πŸ™‚

Final sem memories Part 1 – Class Trip

I have been wanting to return for quite sometime now, but somehow, things kept coming in the way. Firstly, I’m very excited to announce that Arpit has awarded me the “Versatile Blogger” award πŸ™‚ ….its a great honour to get this award for a blog thats only 39 posts young…Thanks a lot Arpit πŸ™‚

In a few days from now, I’ll be done with engineering. There are a lot of memories that I’ll take with me from college, many of them from my final semester. I thought of sharing a few of those memories here, starting with our ‘oh-so-secretive’ class trip to Belur, Kemmanagundi and Udupi πŸ˜€ …

It was on the 4th of April that we started off from Polar Bear, on what was our first (and only one so far!) overnight class trip. Everyone gathered by 10 P.M, and we were on our way to our first destination – Belur…and if you thought that a night journey was very dull, you were badly mistaken. There was not a single moment of boredom, what with music and dance, people laughing and enjoying, and waking up those who were trying to sleep for sometime πŸ˜† ….amidst all this fun and frolic, we reached Belur at around 3 in the morning, after a brief halt at Chennarayapatna.

After taking rest for about three hours, we headed towards Kemmanagundi, where we were to trek up to Z point. It took 2 hours to reach the base, after which we trekked for almost 8 kms….on the way, we saw a small park with statues of Ram and Sita, followed by a stream which became a popular photography zone πŸ˜› …(and where I had an awesome fall 😐 ) …we split up into many small groups depending on our speed of walking, and our group went slightly ahead of the others. We were guided till the peak by a smart doggie, which seemed to know every nook and corner of the place. The sight from the top was breath-taking, offering a captivating arial view of the distant Shola grasslands in the undulated Western ghats. It was almost like we had reached the top of the world! πŸ™‚

After lunch, we headed to Shanti falls, which was supposed to be very close to the base. Quaint and untouched, Shanti Falls is quite a favourite with travellers to Kemmanagundi. Access to the falls was possible only through jeeps, which looked like they belonged to a museum! After what seemed like ages of travelling on agonizingly bumpy roads, we reached the falls. We had to cross 3 slippery streams to actually get there….but in the end, it was worth it!!! Shanti Falls, gently and beautifully blended with the surroundings, is a small, yet breath-taking fall, with an inimitable power of making one feel relaxed and removed from the bustle of daily city life. I had not expected any falls to have so much water in the middle of summer! And icy cold water too! We played in the water for sometime. A little more time in the water and we would have become ice-cubes! πŸ˜€

Another bumpy 1-hour drive in the ancient jeeps, and we were back to our bus. It was around 8 PM when we finally started on our way back to Belur. A Kannada movie starring Golden-Star Ganesh was being played in the bus, but I (and everyone else for that matter!) was too tired to do anything but sleep! We reached our hotel at 11.30, and had dinner on the terrace at midnight. Some of us went for a stroll upto the famous Belur temple after that, which was just a few metres away from where we were put up.

The next day began as early as 6 again, and we headed out towards Udupi. The journey through the ghats was refreshing to say the least! An hour’s delay meant that we reached Malpe beach only by 3.30 in the afternoon, going via Manipal and Udupi….from there, we boarded a ferry to St. Mary’s island, which is about 5 kms away from the shore. I was very excited about going to the island because, inspite of this place being so close to my native, I’d never been there before! Once on the island, all of us eagerly plunged into the sea…the warm sea water was a stark difference from the falls we had experienced about 24 hours ago πŸ˜€ ….but was as much fun nevertheless!

We still had a little time to explore another coast of the island, before catching the last ferry back to Malpe. We stayed on for some more time at Malpe beach, more so to see the sun go down on a beautiful day…..we took some time to freshen up in a hotel in Udupi, and post dinner, were on our way back to good ol’ Bangalore! πŸ™‚ ….

Truly, this is one trip I’ll remember all my life. Although it lasted for just a little more than 2 days, the memories associated with it are countless ……………… πŸ™‚ ….I’m hoping and praying that we get to go for one more trip after our exams!

    One More Tag :-)

Megyaan had tagged me sometime back, and this was supposed to be my first tag…..but I guess I couldn’t have done this on a more auspicious day πŸ˜€

So on your mark, get set, GO!

    1. If your lover betrayed you, what will your reaction be?

I would sing “Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil se aah nikalti rahi, mujhko sazaa di pyaar ki, aisa kya gunaah kiya…Toh lut gayehhhhhh, haan lut gaye… Toh lut gaye hum teri mohabbat mein 😦 ”

    2. If you can have a dream to come true, what would it be?

To be on an isolated beach with a special someone – especially on a moon-lit night ( yea i know its very filmi πŸ˜› )….

One more dream is to take my dad on a world tour…6 years back, my parents took me to Europe during the holidays….now I want to do the same πŸ™‚

    3. Whose butt would you like to kick?

    Hmmmm….there are many….Himesh Reshammiya tops the list I guess….

    4. What would you do with a billion dollars?

    Convert it to rupees.

    5. Will you fall in love with your best friend?

Sure, as long as Kanthaa-ben is not around πŸ˜€

    6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone?

Being loved by the one you love- I think that’s the best thing that can happen to a person…. just knowing that there is someone who adores you as much as you do brings in a lot more joy and colour to life πŸ™‚

    7. How long do you intend to wait for someone you really love?

Till 12 a.m …I usually go to sleep after that! πŸ™‚

But on a more serious note, my heart would tell me to wait forever, whereas my mind would tell me to move on……..

    8. If the person you secretly like is already attached, what would you do?

I would make her tie me a rakhi so that I can still love her, although in a different way.

    9. If you like to act with someone, who will it be? Your gf/bf or an actress/actor?

Most definitely my gf !Β  …and if my gf is also an actress, then nothing like it ( Teri Ore… Teri Ore… Teri Ore… Hai Rabba πŸ™‚ )

    10. What takes you down the fastest?

The gravitational pull of the earth. ( If I can trust my memory, the value of acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 metres/second squared, which is quite a big number πŸ˜› )

    11. How would you see yourself in ten years time?

Hmmmm…..as happy as I am today……recruiting many freshers from MSRIT to work in my company πŸ™‚

    12. What’s your fear?

Staying alone at home for long hours, although I am quite used to it by now.

    13. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?

    Very energetic, very talkative! πŸ˜€

    14. Would you rather be single and rich or married but poor?

    Happily married but poor πŸ™‚

    15. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

Try to remember which song I was singing in my dream πŸ˜€

    16. Would you give all in a relationship?

Totally. I think this is the second thing I fear- giving in more than required.

    17. If you fall in love with two people simultaneously, who would you pick?

Pretty simple. The one who loves me too….and if both love me, then I’ll toss a coin! πŸ˜€

    18. Would you forgive and forget no matter how horrible a thing that special someone has done?

If its really horrible, then I don’t think so.

    19. Do you prefer being single or having a relationship?

I like doing new things. So after playing domestic matches for 21 years, I don’t mind making my debut in International matches now πŸ˜€

    List more people to tag:

    My first tag!

Swat tagged me to come up with some of my quirks. So here I go, making my tag debut πŸ™‚

1.)Β  I always tend to link things and events with cricket or with some ‘tech’ stuff i listen hear in class. So, most of the time you’ll find me getting off the mark with why some process is not making remote procedure calls to another process, or why one friend function is always bowling bouncers at me everyday, inspite of the pitch being conducive for batting πŸ˜€

2.)Β  If I go to a new place at night, I can’t find my way to the same place during daytime (and vice versa)…good that I’m not a sailor or a pilot.

3.)Β  Of late, I have become very moody. I remember a day when I cried for a long time due to something, and within seconds, I was back to normal! Dunno how it works, but hey, its one of my quirks (rhymes, doesn’t it?! So that is my next point πŸ˜› )

4.)Β  Again, of late, I have been writing 4-liner poems which go to every single friend’s message inbox ( I don’t care if I’m bugging them or not, just want to keep showcasing my ‘literary talent’ πŸ˜€ )

5.)Β  I am regularly irregular- don’t remember when was the last time I reached any place on time (maybe in kindergarten) …now in college, I always reach early for the second class.

6.)Β  I can come up with some of the most innovative PJ’s…sometimes people actually feel like laughing at them! πŸ˜€ …hehe

I would like to tag Sri , Ashwin , Bhavana and Hari.

    Astro-Gyaan (Part 1)

Astrology…this is one subject which has always intrigued me…..right from childhood, I used to be very amused by the fact that a change in planetary movements can change the course of our lives, just like how the gravitational pull of the moon causes tides on earth.

Astrological signs represent 12 equal segments or divisions of the zodiac. The 12 zodiac signs, usually referred to as ‘sun signs’, are the most common tools that we use to understand our personalities and those of others. In fact, most people who want to know you must have asked you your zodiac sign within he first two meetings! πŸ˜€ This proves the popularity of the zodiac signs in our lives. The term zodiac stands for animals. Astrologically, it refers to the various patterns formed by the stars in the sky. Each of the 12 zodiac signs is said to have its own unique set of attributes, talents, strengths and weaknesses. Here, I’ll talk about the general characteristics of each sign.

    1000 hits! Yaaaay :)

Phew! After 5 odd months on WordPress, finally reached the first big milestone πŸ™‚ …..and it couldn’t have come on a better day……it started off with the ‘extra-time’ which my favourite teacher gave us for a particular test ( I guess if he is not satisfied with this also, he’ll have penalty shootouts for us πŸ˜€ ) ….we all played UNO after that in his own class (man, what an awesome game! πŸ™‚ ) …..which resumed in lunch break with a bigger gang and 10 times the fun! πŸ™‚Β  Then came the blogging competition which was more like a training exercise for the juniors….after that, we all just sat outside the seminar hall and chatted for some time before I shifted base to the canteen with the girl gang of our class…..and there we went on and on for a long time, imitating and teasing each other πŸ˜€ ……hehe…..wish there are more such happy days in our last few months in college πŸ™‚

Movies I watched during these holidays….

    Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Cute movie with a predictable climax….brilliant music! πŸ™‚

    My Rating– 9/10

    Mr. Bean’s Holiday

Typical Bean movie, with lots of funny antics and an overdose of French πŸ˜‰

    My Rating– 9/10

    A visit to BIAL

A long period of boredom and a feeling of idleness prompted me and my friend Hari to do something different to ‘waste our time usefully’ πŸ™‚ …so we decided to visit the new Bengaluru International Airport, popularly known as BIAL. We started at 1.30 pm from Majestic, which is the city’s central bus terminus. An air-conditioned Volvo bus is what we boarded, and it looked pretty impressive. The bus was more or less empty at that time, and it cost us only Rs. 125 to reach our destination.
